2024年以来，泰国发生多起以警察名义绑架勒索中国游客的恶性案件。2024年4月25日，5名中国游客在曼谷酒店房间遭11名自称警察的人员闯入掳走，被带往偏僻区域后遭威胁转账，最终被迫向犯罪团伙支付250万泰铢（折合人民币约55.15万元）赎金才得以释放。警方后续查明，涉案团伙中包含泰国现任警官、前警察局调查员等公职相关人员。
